Math Curriculum
Freedom Middle School Math Curriculum follows the Common Core State Standards

Students are assessed in the following areas in Math in each grade level:

6th Grade Math
Ratios and Proportional Relationships
Understand ratio concepts and use ratio reasoning to solve problems.
The Number System
Apply and extend previous understandings of numbers to the system of rational numbers (including common factors, multiples, computation of fractions and fluency with multi-digit problems)
Expressions and Equations
Apply and extend previous understandings of arithmetic to algebraic expressions (including reasoning about and solving one-variable equations and inequalities, and representing and analyzing quantitative relationships between dependent and independent variables)
Geometry
Solve real-world and mathematical problems involving area, surface area, and volume.
Statistics and Probability
Develop understanding of statistical variability.
Standards of Mathematical Practices
Resourceful in finding and using strategies to understand and solve problems.

7th Grade Math
Ratios and Proportional Relationships
Understand ratio concepts and use ratio reasoning to solve problems.
The Number System
Apply and extend previous understandings of operations with positive and negative numbers add, subtract, multiply, and divide rational numbers.
Expressions and Equations
Use properties of operations to generate equivalent expressions and to solve real-life and mathematical problems using numerical and algebraic expressions and equations.
Geometry
Draw, construct and describe geometrical figures and describe the relationships between them, and solve real-life and mathematical problems involving angle measure, area, surface area, and volume.
Statistics and Probability
Use random sampling to draw inferences about a population or draw informal comparative inferences about two populations.
Standards of Mathematical Practices
Resourceful in finding and using strategies to understand and solve problems.

8th Grade Math
Functions
Define, model, evaluate and compare functions
The Number System
Understand exponents, roots, rational and irrational numbers
Expressions and Equations
Use properties of operations to generate equivalent expressions and to solve real-life and mathematical problems using numerical and algebraic expressions and equations.
Geometry
Draw, construct and describe geometrical figures and describe the relationships between them and solve real-life and mathematical problems involving angle measure, area and volume.
Statistics and Probability
Investigate patterns of association in bivariate data
Standards of Mathematical Practices
Resourceful in finding and using strategies to understand and solve problems.
